Loch Kinord Hotel
The Loch Kinord Hotel is just 5 minutes drive from Deeside Gliding Club. The Family owned and managed Loch Kinord Hotel is located in the village of Dinnet, set in the heart of the beautiful and historic Royal Deeside. Built in 1840 as a summer retreat by the owner's great great great grandfather, Balfour House has remained in the family ever since. The house is set in its own idyllic estate, with a tennis court and miles of scenic trails along ancient roads and through conifer woods where wildlife abounds. It is a listed building, with many original features. There are three guest bedrooms from which to choose - one twin with en-suite facilities (with power shower) and two doubles with private bathrooms (one with power shower). All rooms have central heating, tea/coffee-making facilities, a radio and a hairdryer, and all bathrooms have a shaver socket. Meals are served in the impressive dining room and guests may relax in the gracious drawing room, both of which have log fires. Evening meals are available by arrangement at a cost of £16 for a 3 course meal - good home cooking and plenty of it. We are not licensed but guests are welcome to bring their own drinks. The Tink Holiday Cottage
www.the-tink-holiday-cottage.co.uk The Tink Holiday Cottage is located overlooking the river Dee on the eastern outskirts of the village of Ballater some 8 miles from the gliding club. The Cottage was originally the public bar belonging to the Invercauld Arms Hotel (now renamed the Monaltrie hotel). It was so called because the many Tinkers who frequented the upper Deeside area used it as their 'watering' hole. It was converted into a private cottage in the mid 1980's and has now been refurbished and is available for rent as a holiday home. GLEN TANAR ESTATE
Glen Tanar is a tranquil glen situated just to the south of the Gliding club across the River Dee. There are five cottages to choose from, Rowan Cottage sleeps two and the largest, Birklunn sleeps 11/12 persons. Tornacraig is shown above which sleeps 8. There are many fine walks and cycling tracks available through pine forests and moorland. There is also a crystal clear mountain stream, ideal for that summer picnic, or for the more energetic there is also a trout fishing Loch and horse riding.
